Dinner with strangers in Dubai
Every Wednesday and Friday, six people who have never met sit down together at a Dubai restaurant. No swiping, no profiles to browse, no plan to make. We choose the group and book the table; you turn up at half seven.
How it works
Most ways of meeting people in Dubai ask you to do the work — find the event, message first, keep the conversation going, suggest something. This asks you to pick a night.

Answer a few questions
Two minutes, once. Social energy, what you’d rather talk about, what you’d rather spend on dinner. Nobody sees your answers.

We seat the group
Five other people are chosen around you — close in age, sharing a language, a deliberate mix of the quiet and the loud. Not five versions of you, which makes for a dull table.

Then we pick the restaurant
The venue is chosen to suit the group that formed: its budget and its dietary needs. That’s why the address arrives the morning before rather than when you book.

You turn up
Give the name StrangerHour at the door. About two hours. There are conversation cards in the app for the first ten minutes, and no obligation to use them.
“Won’t it be awkward?”
For about ten minutes, probably. Then it stops, because the awkwardness is doing something useful: everyone at the table is in exactly the same position, arrived alone, and chose to. Nobody is being polite to a friend’s friend. That’s a very different room from a party where you know one person.

What it costs

AED 49 a month, less on the longer plans, and it covers every dinner rather than charging per seat.
The restaurant bill
Yours, settled on the night. Most tables spend AED 100–180 a head. We seat similar budgets together so nobody’s ordering a starter while the table orders tasting menus.
Table size
Six. Small enough that one conversation carries; large enough that nobody has to perform.
Is this a dating app?
No. Tables are mixed and matched on how well people would get on, not on attraction, and there is nobody to browse — you don’t see who’s coming until the morning of. People do meet people; that isn’t what it’s built for. Direct messages stay switched off until after the dinner, which removes most of the reason anybody would use it that way.

- Where in Dubai do the dinners happen?
- At partner restaurants across Dubai. We pick a room that suits the group once it's formed, and send you the address the morning before the dinner.
- When are they?
- Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm, running roughly two hours. Some tables carry on somewhere afterwards; plenty don't.
- Do I need to bring someone?
- No — and most people don't. Everyone at the table arrived alone and chose to, which is precisely what makes it work.
- Why don't I find out the restaurant until the day before?
- Because we choose it after we know who's at the table, so it suits the group's budget and dietary needs. Group first, venue second — the opposite of a normal booking.
- What if I can't make it?
- Release your seat in the app, free, until 23:59 two days before. After that we've booked the table and told five people you're coming, so a no-show fee applies.
- What if the dinner doesn't fill?
- If a night can't reach six we cancel it, tell everyone and charge nothing. A table of three is worse than no table.
- I'm new to Dubai and don't know anyone. Is that odd here?
- It's the most common reason people join. A good share of every table has moved here in the last year or two.
